Vickery Rendall, LICSW

Hi, I’m Vickery Rendall

I provide online Postpartum Therapy, Parenting counseling, anxiety treatment, and Trauma therapy in Washington state.

I’m a clinical social worker and proud mama based in Bellingham, WA. I have a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Boston University and spent over 12 years working with individuals and families in many settings – including community mental health, hospitals, and crisis intervention. I have significant experience working with neurodivergent folks, parents of pediatric and adult children with disabilities, and those who don’t always feel like the traditional medical system is speaking their language. My passion lies in helping new parents, experienced parents, and those facing fertility and pregnancy challenges find their strength and peace. I use a range of evidence-based techniques to provide compassionate and effective postpartum therapy, parenting counseling, infertility counseling and pregnancy counseling. Whether you’re dealing with the ups and downs of new motherhood or navigating the complexities of infertility, pregnancy, or parenting. I’m here to walk alongside you with understanding and care.

“Healing comes in waves and maybe today the wave hits the rocks. And that’s okay, that’s okay, darling. You are still healing. You are still healing.”

A glimpse into my world

When I'm not working, you’ll find me enjoying the outdoors, hiking or biking with my partner, kiddo, and our two bonkers rescue dogs. I also love reading and listening to podcasts, always on the lookout for new adventures and stories.

I believe laughter is cathartic and humor therapeutic, and I use it as appropriate in my practice. I have a ridiculous (useless) ability to memorize movie and TV quotes and may throw one out every now and again—though I’m a millennial, so my references may be getting quite dated!

My personal journey

As a mom who has faced pregnancy complications and the demands of caring for a child who had additional needs in infancy, I deeply understand the struggles of new motherhood. While I did not experience infertility myself, and have immense gratitude to have a little one, I am the child of parents who went through a decade of infertility treatment in the 1980’s. As such, interest in,and connection with, the complicated landscape of reproductive care has always been a part of my life.

Balancing a career while being a solo parent half the time due to my partner’s demanding job has taught me resilience. These personal experiences fuel my dedication to providing empathetic postpartum support and pregnancy counseling to help new moms find peace and confidence while parenting.

Why Paper Birch

I chose the name Paper Birch because these trees symbolize strength, resilience, and renewal—qualities every parent embodies–and it’s the first to regrow after a fire.

Just like the paper birch, you are strong, capable, and unique.

Therapeutic methods

I use evidence-based methods such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Individual Therapy, and Somatic Trauma Therapy.

These techniques are designed to help you process trauma, manage anxiety, and reconnect with your body and emotions.

FAQ’s

    • I am currently In Network with Aetna, Cigna, Regence Blue Shield, Premera Blue Cross, LifeWise, United Healthcare (UBH/UHC), and Optum.

    • You may also choose to engage in services as an” Out of Network” client. One reason you may do this is because I do not accept your insurance. Another reason folks choose to not utilize insurance for mental health care because they want to avoid a mental health diagnosis required that will remain in your health records forever.  I do accept out-of-network benefits as long as your plan allows for out-of-network benefits. Please contact your insurance company directly to find out if your plan allows for out-of-network visits, and if so, what those out-of-network benefits are.

    • The full fee for services are due at the time of your appointment for out-of-network benefits.  I will always provide you with a “Superbill” which you can submit to insurance for reimbursement. Any amount your insurance company covers they will reimburse directly to you. Please note, I am unable to assist with insurance beyond providing the Superbill. (Please be aware that if you seek reimbursement from your insurance company, a diagnosis on record would likely be required).

  • My rate for individual therapy is $175 for a 50 minute session.

Typically, meetings are weekly or bi-weekly.

  • Accessibility is incredibly important. Many folks prefer online therapy due to the ease and convenience. You won’t get stuck in traffic or sit in a stale waiting room. You can join from the comfort of your own couch, from your office, or curled up with your pet (I will probably ask you for their name and favorite treats!). All services are provided by Telehealth on a HIPAA compliant electronic health record, My Best Practice.

  • Since scheduling of a counseling appointment involves the reservation of a time specifically for you, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for rescheduling or cancelling an appointment.

  • I am an LICSW in Washington state and can treat clients physically located in Washington state.

  • At this time I am only seeing Adult clients for Individual therapy sessions.

  • I’d be so happy to connect with you! Please note that the email (Vickery@paperbirchtherapy.com) and phone number listed on this website are confidential, on secure HIPAA compliant platforms.

  • As a solo practitioner I am not immediately available outside of sessions and am not a good fit for clients who are in need of crisis intervention. When I am out of the office I am focusing on refilling my own “cup” and may often be away from my phone/computer. If you are in need of more intensive services I’d be happy to provide resources and point you in the direction of crisis intervention services in your area!

  • While the majority of my clients at this time are on a reproductive journey; I have extensive history working with folks with mood disorders, ADHD, and ASD. I enjoy working with individuals navigating life transitions and relationship challenges. Additionally, i have experience and passion for working with folks with a history of trauma and difficulties related to their family of origin and household dysfunction.
