EMDR

Let's get started

EMDR can sound a little mysterious, but really, it’s just a thoughtful way of helping your brain sort through things that haven’t felt settled.

I’ll walk you through the whole process, answer every question you have, and make sure we only move at a pace that feels right for you.

How it Works

EMDR doesn’t mean digging through every detail of your past.

If any of this sounds familiar, EMDR could help create meaningful change.

Carrying more than you’re used to — or more than you should have to hold alone.

Burnout or emotional exhaustion

Responses, beliefs, or emotions that don’t feel aligned with who you want to be.

Patterns you can’t shift

Memories that continue to surface, or situations that bring up familiar reactions.

Old experiences that still feel close

Stress, anxiety, or a sense that your body is always bracing for something.

Feeling on edge

Have You been struggling with...

Life can leave its mark, and sometimes those experiences linger longer than we expect.

EMDR is a good fit for people who want support processing what feels heavy, overwhelming, or simply “stuck,” without having to retell every detail.

Who This Service is For:

You may find yourself pausing instead of spiraling, reacting less automatically, or feeling more in control.

More room to think, respond, and make choices that feel aligned with who you want to be.

Less tension, less bracing, and more ease in day-to-day moments.

Common Shifts Might include

EMDR isn’t about quick fixes or dramatic promises. It’s a gentle, structured way of helping your mind and body process what’s been overwhelming.

Clients often describe feeling lighter, more grounded, and more themselves as the work unfolds.

You won’t get a “blank-slate” therapist here! I’m warm, a little humorous, and fully human right alongside you.

My style is practical, collaborative, and honest.

I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with more than a decade of experience supporting people through trauma, burnout, and major life transitions — both inside hospitals and now in private practice. Before opening Paper Birch Therapy, I spent over ten years working in emergency departments alongside healthcare workers and first responders, shoulder-to-shoulder on some of their hardest days. That background deeply shapes the way I show up in the therapy room: steady, human, and unafraid of the heavy stuff.

I’m also trained in EMDR through the Personal Transformation Institute and frequently use it to help clients process birth trauma, childhood trauma, vicarious trauma, and single-incident events.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked extensively with youth and families navigating the impact of early trauma, which informs the way I support adults whose current struggles are rooted in past experiences. As a parent myself with lived experience of pregnancy complications and early-infancy caregiving, perinatal mental health is close to home — and a core part of my work.

Hi, I'm Vickery

I Need this

Healing isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity, and EMDR helps make it possible, even when life is full.

EMDR is a structured, supportive process that moves at a pace that feels safe for you. We’ll start by getting grounded in your history, your goals, and the patterns that show up in your life. From there, we’ll identify the memories, themes, or beliefs that feel connected to what you’re struggling with today.

Here's What to Expect

A therapy pace that honors your real life, energy, and responsibilities

Clarity around what you want healing to look like

Simple, practical regulation skills you can use anywhere

A calm, collaborative beginning where you’ll get tools to help your nervous system settle, understand your goals, and feel grounded before we go deeper.

A Steady Start

phase 1

Choosing targets that feel manageable, not overwhelming

Understanding how the past interacts with your present

Gentle mapping of triggers and stress points

Together we identify the memories, patterns, or “stuck places” that keep showing up — the ones draining your energy, fueling burnout, or making caregiving feel even heavier.

Finding the Right Threads

phase 2

more ease, clarity, and relief in your day-to-day life as the intensity decreases.

A calmer nervous system as emotional intensity decreases

Reprocessing that helps old memories lose their sharpness

This is where EMDR’s real power shows up. You’ll process experiences in a way that helps them lose their intensity, so you can move through your days with more ease, even when life doesn’t let you step away.

Reprocessing & Relief

Phase 3

You may not get to step out of your responsibilities — but you can step into healing.

Understanding Your Coverage

Yes, I do plenty of concurrent work with generalist therapists.

Yep! Research supports that it works, it may take a little longer but it’s not a reason to not do it.

Not necessarily. In EMDR, we talk about memories as if they are a “spider web” that are interconnected. Often when processing a memory it will touch over memories and they often don’t all need to be processed independently.

Yep! Plenty of folks do EMDR some sessions and talk through current challenges in other sessions. Or they decide they don't like EMDR so we keep working together using other methods.

Nope! Plenty of folks seek EMDR for things like a car accident, fear of flying, chronic pain, etc.
